Advanced I&C architectures for cryogenic and vacuum systems

Through its collaboration with Fusion for Energy (F4E), GTD Science, Infrastructures & Robotics has developed specialised capabilities in the design, integration, and validation of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems for cryogenic and vacuum infrastructures operating in demanding environments. Originally developed for the ITER Front End Cryogenic Distribution System (FECDS) and the Torus and Cryostat Cryopumping System (TCCS), these capabilities include complete control architectures integrating hardware, software, interlocks, and nuclear safety functions, as well as the manufacturing and validation of a First-of-a-Kind system.

Main advantages and potential applications

  • Integrated I&C architectures for complex cryogenic and vacuum systems
  • Combination of control hardware, PLC-based software, interlocks, and safety functions
  • Full lifecycle capability from design to manufacturing, testing, and validation
  • Qualification for demanding conditions including EMC, radiation, seismic, and nuclear safety requirements
  • Applicable to fusion facilities, particle accelerators, cryogenic plants, hydrogen infrastructures, and advanced energy systems
